Better events, built by someone who went to a lot of them

In the middle of 2022, after a long relationship ended, I started going to meetups to make new friends. Meetup, Eventbrite, Facebook groups, Luma - I tried them all. It was slow, but it worked: a few new friends, then a few more.

Along the way, I kept noticing the same things:

• The attendee list lies. I went to events with 50+ RSVPs and fewer than 10 people in the room.
• Paywalls don't fix it. Unless a host is already well known or promotes like crazy, charging just means fewer people.
• Everyone burns out. Hosts stop when turnout drops, and guests start avoiding events after a few bad ones.
• The ratio skews. More men turn up than women, and many women come once and don't return.
• Good conversation is getting rare. Social media has made it harder for a lot of us, and it shows.

Friends and the people I met agreed, so I started looking for a fix. If people actually show up to what they sign up for, hosts get motivated to throw more events. Then we can work on making the time together better, too.

That's how Imprezzi was born: an events app that scores what people do, to reward showing up and discourage flaking. It's social scoring with no politics attached - it's only about how you show up for other people.
